A judicial support officer was chopped to death, while her husband and child escaped, during a home invasion in Moruga early this morning.
Thirty-six-year-old Stacy Gopaulsingh of Poui Trace, St Mary's Village, died at the scene.
Police reports stated that around 3 am, Gopaulsingh, her husband, and their child were asleep when three intruders entered their home.
They robbed them of cash, jewellery, a laptop and other items. The men then attacked Gopaulsingh, chopping her multiple times. Her husband grabbed their child and jumped through a window.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, are investigating.
On her Facebook page, Moruga/Tableland MP Michelle Benjamin expressed condolences to the family. She said Gopaulsingh's murder is a grim reminder of the escalating violence plaguing the community.
MP Benjamin said a few months ago, a father and his daughter were murdered in the same area, and the community is still reeling and living in constant fear.
She again called on the Ministry of National Security to take immediate action, including bolstering police presence, equipping officers with the necessary tools to carry out their duties effectively, and ensuring that justice is served swiftly.
