A ju­di­cial sup­port of­fi­cer was chopped to death, while her hus­band and child es­caped, dur­ing a home in­va­sion in Moru­ga ear­ly this morn­ing.

Thir­ty-six-year-old Sta­cy Gopauls­ingh of Poui Trace, St Mary's Vil­lage, died at the scene.

Po­lice re­ports stat­ed that around 3 am, Gopauls­ingh, her hus­band, and their child were asleep when three in­trud­ers en­tered their home.

They robbed them of cash, jew­ellery, a lap­top and oth­er items. The men then at­tacked Gopauls­ingh, chop­ping her mul­ti­ple times. Her hus­band grabbed their child and jumped through a win­dow.

Of­fi­cers of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions, Re­gion Three, are in­ves­ti­gat­ing.

On her Face­book page, Moru­ga/Table­land MP Michelle Ben­jamin ex­pressed con­do­lences to the fam­i­ly. She said Gopauls­ingh's mur­der is a grim re­minder of the es­ca­lat­ing vi­o­lence plagu­ing the com­mu­ni­ty.

MP Ben­jamin said a few months ago, a fa­ther and his daugh­ter were mur­dered in the same area, and the com­mu­ni­ty is still reel­ing and liv­ing in con­stant fear.

She again called on the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty to take im­me­di­ate ac­tion, in­clud­ing bol­ster­ing po­lice pres­ence, equip­ping of­fi­cers with the nec­es­sary tools to car­ry out their du­ties ef­fec­tive­ly, and en­sur­ing that jus­tice is served swift­ly.
