The national death toll for COVID-19 has hit 30 with yet another death being recorded by the Ministry of Health.
According to the Ministry’s 10 am update for today, the latest victim to the disease was an adult male, however, the Ministry did not state whether he had any pre-existing health conditions that made him more vulnerable.
In addition, this latest death means that the number of deaths from COVID-19 have doubled over the past week.
The ministry also is reporting an additional 46 new positive cases, based on samples taken during the period August 28th to September 2nd, 2020. It asserts that this figure is NOT representative of the positive cases over the last 24 hours only.
With these new cases, the number of active COVID-19 cases has risen to 2,030 patients.
Other highlights include…
- Seven (7) additional persons have been discharged.
- Five (5) patients are still in step-down facilities.
- One thousand one hundred and forty-two (1,142) patients are in home isolation under the continuous monitoring of the respective County Medical officer of Health (CMOH) offices.
- Forty-six (46) new patients will be processed for hospital admission at the discretion of the CMOHs.

The Ministry of Health provides the following clinical update as of the morning of Friday 4th September, 2020:
● Number of samples submitted to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), the UWI and other local sites for testing for COVID-19. = 24,449
● Number of unique patient tests completed = 21,527
● Number of repeated tests = 2,922
● Number of samples which have tested positive at public and private facilities in Trinidad and Tobago = 2,030
● Total number of active cases = 1293
● Number of deaths = 30
● Number of persons discharged = 707

The Ministry of Health regrets to inform the public that there is an additional COVID-19 related death. The person is an adult male. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 30.

Intensive Care Units (ICUs) are hospital wards that provide treatment for people who are very ill. They are staffed with health care professionals who are trained in ICU treatment and the use of sophisticated monitoring equipment.
High Dependency Units (HDUs) are wards for people who need more observation, treatment and nursing care than is possible in a general ward but slightly less than that given in an Intensive Care Unit.
An Ambulatory Patient is able to walk about and is not bedridden.

If the person is severely ill, call the 811 (emergency hotline) or call ahead to the Accident and Emergency Department of your nearest hospital for help and go in immediately.

● Wash your hands often with soap and waters or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser
● Cough into a tissue or into the cook of your elbow
