The na­tion­al death toll for COVID-19 has hit 30 with yet an­oth­er death be­ing record­ed by the Min­istry of Health.

Ac­cord­ing to the Min­istry’s 10 am up­date for to­day, the lat­est vic­tim to the dis­ease was an adult male, how­ev­er, the Min­istry did not state whether he had any pre-ex­ist­ing health con­di­tions that made him more vul­ner­a­ble.

In ad­di­tion, this lat­est death means that the num­ber of deaths from COVID-19 have dou­bled over the past week.

The min­istry al­so is re­port­ing an ad­di­tion­al 46 new pos­i­tive cas­es, based on sam­ples tak­en dur­ing the pe­ri­od Au­gust 28th to Sep­tem­ber 2nd, 2020. It as­serts that this fig­ure is NOT rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the pos­i­tive cas­es over the last 24 hours on­ly.

With these new cas­es, the num­ber of ac­tive COVID-19 cas­es has risen to 2,030 pa­tients.

Oth­er high­lights in­clude… 

-  Sev­en (7) ad­di­tion­al per­sons have been dis­charged.

-  Five (5) pa­tients are still in step-down fa­cil­i­ties.

-  One thou­sand one hun­dred and forty-two (1,142) pa­tients are in home iso­la­tion un­der the con­tin­u­ous mon­i­tor­ing of the re­spec­tive Coun­ty Med­ical of­fi­cer of Health (CMOH) of­fices.

-  Forty-six (46) new pa­tients will be processed for hos­pi­tal ad­mis­sion at the dis­cre­tion of the CMOHs.

The Min­istry of Health pro­vides the fol­low­ing clin­i­cal up­date as of the morn­ing of Fri­day 4th Sep­tem­ber, 2020:

● Num­ber of sam­ples sub­mit­ted to the Caribbean Pub­lic Health Agency (CARPHA), the UWI and oth­er lo­cal sites for test­ing for COVID-19. = 24,449

● Num­ber of unique pa­tient tests com­plet­ed = 21,527

● Num­ber of re­peat­ed tests = 2,922

● Num­ber of sam­ples which have test­ed pos­i­tive at pub­lic and pri­vate fa­cil­i­ties in Trinidad and To­ba­go = 2,030

The Min­istry of Health re­grets to in­form the pub­lic that there is an ad­di­tion­al COVID-19 re­lat­ed death. The per­son is an adult male. This brings the to­tal num­ber of COVID-19 re­lat­ed deaths to 30.

● Forty-six (46) ad­di­tion­al per­sons have test­ed pos­i­tive for COVID-19.

All es­tab­lished pro­to­cols have been im­ple­ment­ed.

In­ten­sive Care Units (ICUs) are hos­pi­tal wards that pro­vide treat­ment for peo­ple who are very ill. They are staffed with health care pro­fes­sion­als who are trained in ICU treat­ment and the use of so­phis­ti­cat­ed mon­i­tor­ing equip­ment.

High De­pen­den­cy Units (HDUs) are wards for peo­ple who need more ob­ser­va­tion, treat­ment and nurs­ing care than is pos­si­ble in a gen­er­al ward but slight­ly less than that giv­en in an In­ten­sive Care Unit.

An Am­bu­la­to­ry Pa­tient is able to walk about and is not bedrid­den.
