The Media Complaints Council (MCC) has announced its newly appointed members, who officially took up their roles on 1st June 2025.

Chaired by veteran journalist Lennox Grant, the other members are Stephen Wilson, Joanne Tracy Farrag and Charles Carter. Their appointments were formalised by Douglas Wilson, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association (TTPBA).

The MCC was established in 1997 following a government green paper on media regulation. The TTPBA created the council as an independent body to enforce the media’s Code of Practice.

The MCC serves the public by investigating complaints about ethical breaches or inaccuracies in both print and electronic media. It aims to resolve disputes quickly and fairly, while promoting fairness, balance and courtesy in journalism.

The council also plays a role in co-regulation, a recommendation included in the Telecommunications Authority’s Draft Broadcast Code.

According to the MCC’s by-laws, the council exists to provide a cost-effective, efficient and independent avenue for the public to raise concerns about media conduct while preserving the freedom of the press.

Members of the public can file written complaints through the council’s website at https://mcc.org.tt/complaint.
