A new minister has been ordained by the Presbyterian Church of T&T (PCTT), bringing to 30 the number of ministers ordained by the church.
Speaking at an ordination service at the Susamachar Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Rev Robert Dinnoo said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve citizens.
“It gives me pleasure to greet you as Reverend Robert Dinnoo. I thank God for allowing me to answer the call to service people. What a journey it has been from my early beginnings at the Morning Star Presbyterian church. I am elated that my parents afforded me the opportunity to grow up in church,” Rev Dinnoo said.
He said the Oropouche Youth Assembly was the foundation that allowed him to be part of the Board of Christian Education.
“This thirst for knowledge allowed me to enter the St Andrews Theological College,” he added.
Meanwhile, Presbyterian Church Moderator Rev Joy Abdul-Mohan said there are now 30 ministers in the church, exclusive of nine women. She said ordination is a gift and not a right.
“Ordination is not about access to position, influence or power in the church,” she added.
Saying Rev Dinnoo was now equipped to serve T&T, Rev Abdul-Mohan called on Rev Dinnoo to undertake his responsibilities with sincerity.
Meanwhile, former moderator Dr Rev Annabell Lalla-Ramkelawan called on Rev Dinnoo to remain humble and not be influenced by those who may not be genuine.
“There will be times when you want to be seen, noticed and recognised. You will be tempted to show your face, don’t. Your call and your ordination are not about you,” she said.
She added, “You are being ordained into a purpose greater than yourself. You are taking vows to loyalty. There will be times in your ministry when individuals will say you doing well, we like you, and what a difference you making. Don’t fall for that. Others may not like you. Don’t buy into their responses.”
