NIB closes all offices after cyber-attack

The Na­tion­al In­sur­ance Board of Trinidad and To­ba­go (NIBTT) is re­port­ing a cy­ber-at­tack which oc­curred on Box­ing Day.

In a state­ment post­ed to its so­cial me­dia pages, NIBTT said all of its of­fices will be closed from to­day, Wednes­day 27 De­cem­ber 2023, un­til Fri­day, De­cem­ber 29.

“The com­pa­ny is cur­rent­ly as­sess­ing our sys­tems af­ter hav­ing ex­pe­ri­enced a ran­somware at­tack on Tues­day 26 De­cem­ber 2023,” it said.

The com­pa­ny said all steps are be­ing tak­en to pro­tect its da­ta in­tegri­ty and tech­nol­o­gy hard­ware.

“We are al­so con­tin­u­ing to dili­gent­ly work with our ex­ter­nal tech­nol­o­gy part­ners to ex­pe­di­tious­ly re­solve this mat­ter,” it said.

NIBTT added that it has re­port­ed the in­ci­dent to the Trinidad and To­ba­go Cy­ber Se­cu­ri­ty In­ci­dent Re­sponse Team (TT-CSIRT) un­der the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty, and is work­ing with that team to­ward a res­o­lu­tion.
