Nigel De Fre­itas has re­placed Chris­tine Kan­ga­loo as Sen­ate Pres­i­dent.

De Fre­itas, was elect­ed un­op­posed dur­ing to­day's sit­ting of the Sen­ate.

In an­nounc­ing the ap­point­ment, Leader of Gov­ern­ment Busi­ness Sen­a­tor Amery Browne con­firmed that de Fre­itas will no longer hold the post of Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture, Land and Fish­eries.

Yes­ter­day, Kan­ga­loo re­signed as Sen­ate Pres­i­dent ahead of Fri­day's Elec­toral Col­lege elec­tion for Pres­i­dent of Trinidad and To­ba­go.

Kan­ga­loo is the gov­ern­ment’s nom­i­nee for the post.

Mean­while, Cen­tral busi­ness­man Richie Sookhai has been ap­point­ed as a Gov­ern­ment Sen­a­tor.

Sookhai, the pres­i­dent of the Ch­agua­nas Cham­ber of Com­merce, would have had to step down to ac­cept the ap­point­ment.
