The sec­tion of the North Coast Road, be­fore the Look­out head­ing to Mara­cas, is now pass­able to sin­gle lane traf­fic.

The San Juan/Laven­tille Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion is­sued the up­date to­day, not­ing that on Sat­ur­day night (De­cem­ber 30, 2023), there was a land­slide and a sec­tion of the road­way col­lapsed.

Fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent, the road was im­pass­able to ve­hic­u­lar traf­fic.

How­ev­er, crews from the Cor­po­ra­tion and the Min­istry of Works and Trans­port cleared away some of the de­bris.

In its ad­vi­so­ry, the Cor­po­ra­tion ad­vis­es res­i­dents of the area to:

“Pro­ceed with cau­tion and tra­verse the road­way on­ly if nec­es­sary.”

Mean­while, it is own ad­vi­so­ry on the is­sue, the Min­istry of Works and Trans­port is en­cour­ag­ing mem­bers of the pub­lic to:

“Con­sid­er al­ter­na­tive routes or avoid the area, if pos­si­ble, un­til full con­nec­tiv­i­ty is re­stored.”

The Min­istry says on­go­ing as­sess­ments are be­ing con­duct­ed, while teams con­tin­ue work­ing on re-es­tab­lish­ing full con­nec­tiv­i­ty to the area.
