There is a new president of the National Parent Teacher Association (NPTA). Kevin David will lead a 12-member executive whose legality is being challenged on the grounds that yesterday’s election, held at the Valencia Secondary School, was unfair.
The election went ahead yesterday despite claims by Clarence Mendoza, head of the Concerned Parents Movement of T&T (CPMTT), of voting irregularities.
Mendoza claimed that more than 100 registered members were barred from casting their votes.
“Clearly what we’ve been to the courts for did not materialise, so we will be speaking before the court,” he told Guardian Media.
“Justice Gobin is the justice that told us to go ahead and have an election to clean up some of this. Evidently, that never took place so we will be back before the courts in the shortest possible time so we can get this rectified.”
The CPMTT leader’s claims have been refuted by David who said the process was transparent and above board.
David, who takes over the position previously held by Zena Ramatali, said the new NPTA executive will be wasting no time in tackling a recent burning issue
“We have been called to a meeting on Monday with the Ministry in which we will be discussing the violence within our school system, so from Monday bright and early we will be hitting the ground,” he said.
