National Transformation Alliance (NTA) leader Gary Griffith says his party will not engage in what he describes as “political domestic violence” with other parties but remains committed to forming alliances with parties that show “political maturity” ahead of the forthcoming general election.
He made the comment in response to questions on whether the NTA will seek an alliance with Mickela Panday’s Patriotic Front (PF), or any other so-called third parties who may join the general election race.
“We not begging other political parties. There must be that mutual understanding, so if certain parties want to go alone that is their right,” Griffith said while at a Rotary Club of Port-of-Spain meeting at Goodwill Industries, Port-of-Spain, yesterday.
He added, “What I am not going to accept is other parties like Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s smearing and discrediting other parties like the NTA and then contracting other people who will only say the nastiest things about other people.”
Panday announced on Sunday that the Patriotic Front had selected seven candidates for the general election.
She subsequently said while the PF was open to forming a partnership with other political entities, its focus now was on the screening process.
