Canadian-based fertilizer company, Nutrien, has signaled its intention to further its investment in Trinidad and Tobago.
The commitment came via a meeting of the company's executives and prime minister Dr Keith Rowley at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann's on Tuesday.
Over the next six months, the company will execute a multimillion-dollar plant upgrade as it continues to position itself as a major player in the local hydrocarbon industry.
Nutrien also received an update on the work completed in the local energy sector to secure the viability of the gas upstream and downstream industry.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to working together and building a strong partnership that is mutually beneficial.
Nutrien Trinidad, formerly PCS Nitrogen Trinidad Limited, is the country’s largest ammonia producer and one of the largest nitrogen manufacturing complexes in the world.
The company’s business in Trinidad and Tobago accounts for more than 35% of its global production portfolio.
Nutrien is the world's largest provider of crop inputs and services with operations and investments in 14 countries.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young meet with Nutrien executives at the Diplomatic Centre on Tuesday.
Chuck Magro, president and chief executive officer of Nutrien, Raef Sully, executive vice-president and CEO of Nitrogen & Phosphate and Ian Welch, director of Nutrien Trinidad, represented the company at the meeting.
Minister of National Security, Communications and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young was also present for the talks.
