One man was killed and nine others arrested as police seized a quantity of arms, ammunition and drugs in Arima on Wednesday 1st April 2020.
The anti-crime exercise was supervised by Cpls Gordon and Ali, and included officers attached to the Cumuto Police, La Horquetta Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Maloney CID, Malabar Police Station and K-9 Unit conducted in Northern Division.
According to official police reports, the officers executed a search warrant at Block 3-5, Wallerfield, Arima where—with the assistance of the K-9 unit—they found approximately 19 kilogrammes of marijuana.
Six persons were arrested in relation to the offence of possession of cannabis. Four of the detainees were illegal Venezuelan Immigrants.
The officers then proceeded to Balisier Road, Wallerfield, where they executed another warrant.
Upon arrival at the location, the officers observed three men, one of whom was known to them. Upon seeing the officers, the men shot at them and ran. The police officers returned fire.
Two of the men were captured by the officers a short while later. The third was seen lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately taken to the Arima Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police recovered from the scene two assault rifles, along with 29 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 26 rounds of .45 ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 ammunition, and 86 rounds of 7.62 ammunition. Also seized by police from the scene were approximately 150 marijuana trees, a desert storm camouflage bullet proof vest, one ski-mask and a firearm sling.
Investigations continue.
