Journalist Raoul Pantin, brother of late economist Dennis Pantin, says the family is happy he will be recognised for his contribution to economic development.
The late University of the West Indies, St Augustine, lecturer Pantin will posthumously receive the Humming Bird Medal (Gold) for his contribution in the sphere of national development. Raoul Pantin, in an interview yesterday said: "I am happy for the recognition. We are still a bit grieved, as you know he was the youngest member of the family. I think he deserves it. He was a hardworking young man." Pantin succumbed to cancer of the bile duct at his home at Maracas, St Joseph, on July 14. He was laid to rest at UWI, St Augustine, on his birthday on July 20.
Mc Farlane gets Chaconia gold
Artist/designer Brian MacFarlane who received the Chaconia Medal (Gold) in the sphere of Culture said yesterday: "I feel very humbled and honoured and excited and enthused. I don't think it was all in vain. I just feel quite honoured and overwhelmed that people are honouring me. The arts are much alive in T&T. I am in a bit of shock. I will be accompanied by my brother Robert."
Silver for a doctor
Medical doctor Zulaika Ali, who got the Chaconia Medal (Silver) in the sphere of medicine said: "It's a nice feeling. It is not only a reflection of my work, but all the people who have helped to facilitate the accomplishment I have achieved over the years. "My husband Dr David Picou (Aids researcher) is part of the group that I really appreciate and who has helped me along on this journey. He has been my rock.
Pegus for fashion
Fashion designer Claudia Pegus, who received the Chaconia Medal (Silver) in the sphere of fashion, said: "I feel elated. I feel happy. I feel as though I have won it for industry and not for myself. I think it is a plus for the industry. I am working on my dress...right now. As you guessed, the colour is red."
Kenny honoured
Prof Julian Kenny–Chaconia Medal (Gold)–for conservation of the environment, said: "The environment is an awful mess. I'm 80. What can you say? I will continue to try to see what we can do for the environment's protection."
