A resignation letter from former Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) executive director and board chairman Lennox Sealy stated he resigned due to personal circumstances.
Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales read the letter in Parliament responding to a query from the Opposition’s Rudy Indarsingh.
The July 8 letter to Gonzales informed him of Sealy’s resignation from the positions effective that date.
Sealy said he was appreciative of the experience and thanked Gonzales for the opportunity to serve in those positions. It ended “I wish you all the best in the transformation of the Water and Sewerage Authority.”
Gonzales repeated the letter when Indarsingh asked if Sealey was “constructively dismissed” and the resignation was a cover-up. On who was in charge at WASA, Gonzales said a board and executive management.
Gonzales detailed how the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) crews dealt with outages in areas affected by Thursday’s inclement weather.
In the East there were 114 outages, in the North 25, four in Tobago, 20 in Central and 15 in South.
Planning Minister Camille Robinson-Regis said so far no applications were received for emergency relief arising from the bad weather.
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh clashed with Opposition Naparima MP Rodney Charles who asked why the elderly at several homes in his Naparima constituency weren’t vaccinated.
Deyalsingh said consent was needed from a child or guardian of the elderly. At the start of the vaccination exercise, he said five Naparima homes were quarantined and couldn’t be done.
Charles said he was told consent was given and questioned why they weren’t vaccinated.
Deyalsingh challenged Charles, “If you have that information, give us! Don’t sit on it! I’ll be more than happy to send a mobile vaccination team!“
Charles said the St Vincent de Paul and Jaycee McDonald homes were affected.
Deyalsingh said if a home has a positive COVID patient, they can’t be vaccinated for three months and the homes can also call the South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA).
While telling Charles to “seek advice before embarrassing yourself in the public domain” he at the same time, told Charles “We can work across the aisle instead of the usual UNC tantrums.”
