Just two days after Amina Mohammed, 68, was murdered during a home invasion in Couva, another elderly citizen has been attacked by bandits in his home.
The 78-year-old retiree, of Satnarine Trace, Penal, was beaten and robbed during a home invasion on Monday.
According to reports, the retiree was sitting in his garage at 2.30 pm when two men armed with cutlasses accosted him. They beat him, causing an injury to his head. The suspects bound his hands and took him into the house to a bedroom. They then ransacked the house and stole a quantity of jewellery and $600 before running off.
The elderly man managed to untie himself and sought assistance.
The suspects’ faces were completely covered with only their eyes showing.
Penal police are investigating.
The incident was the latest in a spate of attacks against elderly people in the last few days.
On December 14, Mohammed was stabbed in the neck multiple times with her kitchen knife.
On that same day, another pensioner, Bertram Greenaway, 68, of Herrera Trace, Morne Coco Road, Maraval, was found dead at his home with his throat slit. Also, on that day, 70-year-old Zahir Khan, of Bamboo Settlement #1, Valsayn, was kidnapped from his house.
