Perenco is confirming that three contract employees were injured in a fire on a gas compressor on the teak platform.
A statement from Perenco issued in response to questions from the Guardian this morning indicated that at around 3:50 pm on 28th January 2020, when mechanics were performing maintenance on a gas compressor a fire occurred.
According to Perenco, the fire was quickly extinguished, the emergency response procedures activated and the platforms were shut in.
Perenco said there was no discharge of hydrocarbons to the environment as a result of the incident.
“Unfortunately”, according to the company “three contract employees were injured,” they are reported to have “immediately received medical treatment on-site.”
Perenco said “two of the three injured persons required further medical treatment and were promptly airlifted to shore.”
One person has since been discharged following medical checks and the other remains in a stable condition at the medical facility.
Perenco said all relevant authorities and agencies “were duly informed and are being kept updated.”
The company assured that a “full investigation with the relevant authorities has been initiated.”
Perenco also said that together with the contracting company, it is in contact with the families and is providing all necessary support.
