To­ba­go Homi­cide Of­fi­cers are prob­ing the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the is­land's eighth mur­der for 2019.

Po­lice have iden­ti­fied the vic­tim as Dean O'Neil, 40, a PH Taxi Dri­ver of De­laford, To­ba­go.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, short­ly af­ter 1 am on Thurs­day, O'Neil was dri­ving his red Mit­subishi Lancer mo­tor ve­hi­cle, when he turned on­to a trace off Canaan Feed­er Road, where he was shot by a lone gun­man.

Neigh­bours say they heard sev­er­al shots and on check­ing, he was found slumped be­hind the steer­ing wheel.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that CCTV footage al­leged­ly showed a white ve­hi­cle pulling along­side him, a man ex­it­ing with a firearm, fir­ing sev­er­al shots and then the man re­turn­ing to his ve­hi­cle and speed­ing off.

O'Neil re­ceived sev­er­al shots about the body, he died at the scene.

Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr. Chi­ma vis­it­ed the scene and or­dered the body re­moved to the Scar­bor­ough Hos­pi­tal Mor­tu­ary.

An au­top­sy is sched­uled to be per­formed to de­ter­mine the ex­act cause of death.

Po­lice say they are work­ing on sev­er­al the­o­ries and mo­tives for the killing.

To­ba­go Homi­cide Bu­reau is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
