Former People’s National Movement minister and MP Jarrette Narine has passed away.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley mourned his passing yesterday with a post on social media saying, “A patriot has retired. For us in the PNM, a stalwart is gone after he had kept the faith and run the course.”
Narine was Arouca North MP from 1991-2007, served as Minister of Local Government and Minister of Agriculture (2003-2007 )and also held a portfolio in the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The PNM Women’s League also mourned Narine.
“Mr Narine’s love for people and the passion to serve them made him a force to be reckoned with as a parliamentary representative. He was firmly committed to his work, a great attribute that led to the successes and advancements in his political career. He also advised his colleagues and aspiring politicians that “politics is a genuine and honest job that one can do and once done properly, it will only be for the benefit of the country,” it said in a statement.
It noted that with a career spanning over 40 years, Narine had the fortune of working with former PNM leader, the late Dr Eric Williams, the late George Chambers and the late Patrick Manning.
Narine was awarded the PNM’s Dr Eric Williams medal and was also a recipient of the Chaconia Silver for his service to T&T just last year.
“We of the National Women’s League of the PNM, extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Grace and their children and grandchildren. We pray that his soul rests in perfect peace and rises in glory,” the release added.
