Campaigning for the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections continued in earnest during the week after the Assembly was dissolved on Tuesday.

Political leader of the Tobago Council of the People’s National Movement, Tracy Davidson-Celestine, walked the Lambeau/Signal electoral district during the week.

On Thursday, she said she feels “comfortable” about winning the seat.

“From all the indications and the responses from the people, they are PNM people. They have been giving support to the party over the years and want to continue to see the People’s National Movement governing Tobago,” she told Guardian Media.

Davidson -Celestine was the PNM’s sole candidate screened for the Lambeau/Signal Hill district.

Her vie for candidacy followed on the heels of the resignation of the PNM area representative Jomo Pitt. He held the seat from 2017.

Before Pitt, the PNM’s William McKenzie held on to that seat since 1980.

Unless a new candidate emerges from another political party, there will be a two-way fight for the seat. Davidson-Celestine faces the Progressive Democratic Patriots candidate Wane ‘Wasp’ Clarke.

Clarke is one of the party’s 12 candidates in the elections.

Meanwhile, the Unity of the People’s political leader Nickocy Phillips said the party would not field a candidate for that seat.

He will represent the Buccoo/ Mt. Pleasant district.

Hochoy Charles could not be reached for comment on the status of two parties in which he is involved. He is the leader of The Platform of Truth and the chairman of the One Tobago Voice’s steering committee.

If Davidson -Celestine wins her seat and the PNM wins the THA elections, she will become Tobago’s first female Chief Secretary.
