A 26-year-old Tobago man and his 27-year-old girlfriend have been taken into custody, in connection with the double murder of brothers Kelton and Kenwyn James in Les Coteaux, Tobago, on Friday night.
The man who is from Golden Lane was arrested at his girlfriend’s house in Petrea Gardens, La Horquetta around 1 pm yesterday.
Both were taken to the Besson Street Police Station where they are expected to be interviewed by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I, as well as the Tobago Homicide officers.
Guardian Media understands that the operation was a joint exercise between the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the Homicide Bureau and the Special Operations Response Team (SORT).
Around 10:30 pm on Friday, both men had just left their sister’s home at James Avenue, Tablepiece, Les Coteaux and were proceeding south along Providence Road in a white Hyundai H-100 vehicle when they were accosted by three men they had previously had an altercation with.
The incident occurred near the Wise Choice Supermarket in Les Coteaux.
Police say the brothers both exited the vehicle and were approaching the men who opened fire on them. They died on the spot.
The assailants escaped on foot.
The suspect is believed to have left Tobago via pirogue and was tracked via and land and sea.
The man will be placed on an ID parade this week before he is officially charged.
