A police officer and a relative were abducted and robbed on Monday while travelling in Valencia.

Police reported that the two left the officer’s Tacarigua home with a man known to them. The suspect allegedly took them to Valencia to conduct a money transaction. Along Clarence Trace, Valencia Old Road, six other suspects blocked their vehicle and forced the officer and his relative out.

The suspects allegedly assaulted the victims and robbed them of their belongings. They then demanded a ransom from another relative of the victims. After receiving confirmation of the payment, the suspects moved the officer and his relative to a shack further along Clarence Trace and tied them up.

The victims managed to free themselves and sought medical attention before contacting the police. Investigating officers later recovered the victims’ vehicle, which had been used to block the road at Clarence Trace.

Police investigations into the incident continue.
