Officers from the Cunupia Police Station yesterday rescued a mother and her infant girl from a man who had abducted them on Thursday night.
Police reported that around 9 pm on Thursday, the officers went to Warren Road, Cunupia, and arrested a 39-year-old man and rescued the 20-year-old woman and her 18-month-old child.
Police said yesterday that the mother and child appeared not to have been harmed.
Investigating officers said the duo, who live at Paul Augustus Street, Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, were taken against their will by the suspect.
The mother and child were reportedly at the Ghandi Street, St Helena home of a relative when the man arrived at the site and physically accosted and took them away.
Police said after pulling them out of the house, the man forced them into a white mini-truck and sped off.
Both mother and child were handed over to the Victim and Witness Support Unit where they received initial counselling support. - Jensen La Vende
