Po­lice have shot and in­jured a men­tal­ly un­sta­ble man who was throw­ing stones at ve­hi­cles in Bar­rack­pore just af­ter mid­day to­day.

The 33-year-old man is present­ly be­ing treat­ed at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.

Re­ports in­di­cate that around 12.18 pm

of­fi­cers were on in­quires in the Bar­rack­pore dis­trict.

When they got to #2 Scale New Colo­nial they ob­served a man throw­ing bricks at ve­hi­cles. They stopped and tried to talk to him. How­ev­er, the man re­port­ed­ly lunged at one of the of­fi­cers with a cut­lass. The of­fi­cer dis­charged his firearm, hit­ting the man mul­ti­ple times be­fore tak­ing him to hos­pi­tal for treat­ment.
