Police yesterday arrested four men and foiled a drug deal involving the sale of some 138 kilogrammes of marijuana.
According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, around 5 am yesterday, officers from the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and canine Tino began Operation Red Fox.
During the operation, the officers reportedly conducted surveillance on a Silver Nissan Cube in Moruga.
Around 7.15 am, the same Nissan Cube was intercepted along the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, close to the Caroni Bridge. In the trunk, the officers allegedly found 138 kilogrammes of marijuana.
The vehicle’s lone occupant, a man from Lance Mitan Road, Moruga, was arrested and taken to the St Joseph Police Station, along with the drugs.
The officers then got more information, leading them to Grand Bazaar, Valsayn, where they arrested three men who were allegedly waiting to collect the drugs.
A video of incident, which showed heavily armed officers leading a man out of Xtra Foods Supermarket in Grand Bazaar, was widely shared on social media yesterday. One of the men lives at La Ruffin, Moruga and was driving a Silver Nissan AD wagon. The second lives at Roxborough Extension, Diego Martin and drove a white Nissan Navarra. The third was from Topaz Avenue, Diego Martin.
All three suspects were taken to the St Joseph Police Station and their vehicles were seized.
Police said charges were expected to be laid against all four and they will appear virtually before a magistrate this week.
