Three weeks after 46-year-old Jaime Mohammed went missing, her decomposing, headless body was found in a bushy area in Siparia on Thursday.
Relatives identified the body by her sneakers.
Her sister-in-law, Evelyn Chattoo, had previously appealed for assistance to locate her. Chattoo said Mohammed's common-law husband informed them that he last saw her on October 18 when he dropped her off at a bar in Siparia to meet friends. Mohammed never returned home. He notified the family of her disappearance the following Monday, prompting them to begin searching.
The family filed a missing person report at the Siparia Police Station and contacted the Hunters Search and Rescue Team. They confirmed that Mohammed was at the bar on October 18 but learned she left around 3 a.m. to get a taxi home. Chattoo stated Mohammed would not have stayed away without contacting her family.
A 20-year-old hunter discovered the body around 1:30 p.m. on Murray Trace while walking with a 15-year-old schoolgirl. Initially mistaking it for a mannequin, he noticed a foul odour and a skull nearby as he approached.
The body, lying on its back, wore a leopard-print top and reddish shorts pulled to the left knee. One white and pink Under Armour sneaker remained on the left foot, while the other was three feet away. A black purse and a key were found beside the body.
Homicide officers from Region 3 are investigating.
