Faced with increased poverty levels caused by the pandemic, the St John Trace/Oropouche Police Youth Club has reached out to help families in need.
Club president WPC Trishann Sieuradge-Ramdeen and members of the St John Trace/Oropouche Youth Club distributed 100 hampers to students of the Oropouche RC school, as well as needy children in the Oropouche police district.
Sieuradge-Ramdeen said the group took the initiative as a means of giving back to the people of the community.
"This was geared towards keeping our youths occupied so they can stay safe and away from the criminal elements. As we have seen recently, several young persons have fallen victim to violent crime, shootings and road traffic accidents," Sieuradge-Ramdeen said.
She encouraged all parents to join their children in the Police Youth Clubs across the division.
"The Commissioner of Police has fully endorsed the section of "Cops" Community Oriented Policing Section. The aim of the St John Trace/Oropouche Police Youth Club is to make each of its members a well rounded, brilliant, successful, happy, spiritual member of society," Sieuradge-Ramdeen said.
She expressed gratitude to corporate sponsors for making the hamper distribution a success.
