A po­lice of­fi­cer who was pro­mot­ed to the rank of Sergeant a month ago has died.

A po­lice state­ment said Sgt De­on Garfield Mapp died on Mon­day 5th Sep­tem­ber, 2022.

Sergeant Mapp was on­ly one month ago pro­mot­ed to the rank of Sergeant.

He was en­list­ed in the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice on the 08 April, 2002 and was 44 years old.

The state­ment said Cpl Dar­ren Bap­tiste re­mem­bers Sgt. Mapp, who held one of the high­est crime de­tec­tion rates on the is­land for the past five years, as an hon­est and trust­wor­thy of­fi­cer whose com­mit­ment to du­ty was un­matched.

He was a God-fear­ing man who worked tire­less­ly, with pas­sion and ded­i­ca­tion. He will be missed by his col­leagues at the Ca­nine Op­er­a­tional/ To­ba­go Branch and by ex­ten­sion the TTPS, for be­ing an es­sen­tial part of the team and served with the ut­most in­tegri­ty.

Sgt Mapp leaves to mourn his wife Avion Mapp, two chil­dren, moth­er, fa­ther and two sib­lings.
