Port of Spain City Corporation workers are calling for an election to replace current Amalgamated Workers' Union president Micheal Prentice.
"He has passed his time...we need a union who cares who takes care of its own," worker Andy Scott said.
Scott and other workers made the call during a peaceful protest on Monday morning. He said they are being neglected by the union even though they pay their fortnightly fees of $35.
"This man like he just abandoned the workers...employees do not have the right material, equipment, and parts to do the job effectively," he said.
Scott who has worked with the corporation for over 40 years said another issue is that Prentice signed off on the Government's four per cent offer without proper consultation.
"The Amalgamated Workers' Union is a sellout union," he shouted.
Guardian Media reached out to Prentice who said he will consult with the Port of Spain City Corporation workers soon. He also added that elections can be held this year and were delayed because of the pandemic.
