The Port-of-Spain City Corporation has paid tribute to the capital city’s 37th mayor, Ethelbert “Telly” Paul, who died on the Republic Day holiday - Tuesday.
A post on its Facebook page stated that at its end-of-month statutory meeting at City Hall, Port-of-Spain, chaired by Mayor Alderman Chinua Alleyne, council members and administrative staff acknowledged the passing of Paul, who served the city of Port-of-Spain from 1992 to 1996.
On September 28, 2022, the chamber at City Hall was renamed the Ethelbert “Telly” Paul Chamber.
Mayor Alleyne praised the tireless efforts of former Mayor Paul, fondly highlighting that Paul’s dedication to service should set an example for all.
Paul was also a major figure in the insurance industry, running the ‘Telly Paul Agency’ under ALGICO.
