Power Construction Corporation of China, a leading infrastructure firm, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing clean energy projects in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider region.
Known as PowerChina, the company values its close relationship with the Trinidad and Tobago government and aims to initiate more projects that drive sustainable development.
Addressing Caribbean and Latin American journalists on Tuesday at PowerChina’s headquarters in Beijing, company representative Geng Xingqiang cited the Malabar Wastewater Treatment Plant as an exemplary project. He noted its significant impact, benefiting thousands of local households and improving the livelihoods of Trinbagonians.
“These initiatives not only improve local infrastructure but also inject new vitality into the region's economic and social development,” Geng said.
He added that PowerChina aims to play a pivotal role in the Caribbean by supporting local energy, power, and infrastructure investments while advancing sustainability goals.
PowerChina also played a crucial role in constructing the solar park at Piarco International Airport.
At its commissioning ceremony in July, Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan stated that the government, alongside the Airports Authority, continues to pursue projects aimed at reducing the country’s carbon footprint and emissions.
Speaking to Guardian Media in Beijing, PowerChina Regional Manager He Yuxin reinforced the importance of fostering clean energy development in the Caribbean, describing it as the way forward.
The journalists in attendance represented Caribbean and Latin American countries, participating in this year’s China International Press Communication Centre (CIPCC) media exchange programme.
