President Christine Kangaloo has said it is time to prioritize autonomy for Tobago and give Tobago the self-government it deserves.

In her feature address during her inaugural visit to the island, President Kangaloo said she had not addressed the topic in the opening of Parliament because she wanted to first raise it with the Tobagonian community directly first.

She stated, "At this crucial juncture in our country's history, it is our duty to prioritize the issue of Tobago's autonomy on a national level."

She emphasized the need for increased efforts in achieving self-governance for the island. "I believe it is time to thoroughly review and revisit the matter of Tobago's autonomy," she asserted, adding that she believes the moment has come for a final legislative push towards granting autonomy to Tobago.
