President Christine Kangaloo has once again called out members of the Trinidad and Tobago Volunteer Defence Force for active duty.
This year 120 reserves have been called out, up from 100 last year.
This action is authorised under Section 238(1) of the Defence Act, Chap. 14:01, which allows the President to mobilize the Volunteer Defence Force or any portion of it for military service when a disturbance or emergency occurs, or is anticipated, and exceeds the civil authorities' capacity to handle it.
The call-out will be in effect for 99 days from 22nd December 2024 to 31st March 2025.
The purpose is to support the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force in assisting the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to provide a safe and secure environment during the Christmas season and leading up to the 2025 Carnival period.
