President-Elect Christine Kangaloo is confident that her past political ties to the People’s National Movement (PNM) will not affect her judgment in office. She noted that she has not been a part of the political party for the past seven years.
“When I became President of the Senate, I resigned from participation in the political party, I resigned my membership,” she revealed.
“I, also, since 2015, as the presiding officer, as the president of the Senate, I have attended no political functions. I have taken part in no local activities. I have made no political decisions. I have received no political instructions—that is how I have been conducting myself for the last seven years,” the President-Elect added.
She said while she does not deny her past political ties, she never treated anything on a partisan basis, and she asked the public to give her a chance to perform her duties according to the Constitution.
President-Elect Kangaloo spoke with the media today, at the presentation of the Presidential instrument of Election at Parliament.
