A prisoner who escaped from the Carrera Convict Prison last Friday was recaptured along the Western Main Road on Monday.
Police said prisoner Jamal Joseph, who escaped from the prison on November 14, was held during a coordinated response involving police officers and the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service.
Police said officers from the Carenage Police Station received information around 3 pm from prison personnel that Joseph had been seen along the Western Main Road, near Tembladora Park. Officers on mobile patrol responded and met prison officers already on the scene.
Police said a prison officer was driving south along the Western Main Road around 2.30pm when he noticed an unusual object in the water. On checking, he realised it was the missing prisoner, who appeared to have suffered multiple injuries during his escape.
TTPS officers escorted Joseph to a medical facility. He remains under the supervision of prison officials.
The Prison Service said Joseph was discovered missing from his cell during routine checks around 8.32 pm on Friday. He is serving a five-year sentence with hard labour for larceny of a motor vehicle and was expected to be released in October 2028.
An internal investigation is underway into the circumstances of the escape.
