The Prov­i­dence Girls Catholic Sec­ondary school had to be dis­missed ear­ly to­day af­ter stu­dents said they saw a wound­ed man run through the com­pound. Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, at around 7.15 this morn­ing , of­fi­cers of the Port of Spain task force re­spond­ed to loud ex­plo­sions at Davis Street Bel­mont.

Up­on ar­rival, the of­fi­cers in the vicin­i­ty of Bel­mont Sec­ondary School they said they saw a man who said he was shot on the La­dy Young. He was car­ried to the hos­pi­tal.

While there, the of­fi­cers got an­oth­er re­port of a man armed with a firearm at Prov­i­dence Girls school. The prin­ci­pal said she heard her scream­ing and when she in­ves­ti­gat­ed, they told her that they saw a bare back man run­ning through the school­yard with blood on him.

The of­fi­cers made checks around the school to en­sure no sus­pects were on the com­pound. Ac­cord­ing to the Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion Dr Nyan Gads­by Dol­ly the min­istry is tak­ing steps to in­stall a high­er fence at the back of the school where the in­jured man was able to jump. Gads­by Dol­ly said this was de­ter­mined af­ter a vis­it from of­fi­cials ear­li­er to­day.
