A surge of vi­o­lence gripped the coun­try over the last twen­ty-four hours in which Venezue­lan na­tion­als were both per­pe­tra­tors and vic­tims of crime.

Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Gary Grif­fith dur­ing a po­lice brief­ing yes­ter­day said con­sid­er­a­tion should be giv­en to de­port­ing Venezue­lans they are found to be in­volved in crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty, even if they have been grant­ed amnesty to stay in this coun­try for a year.

Grif­fith’s call came in the midst of a bloody Fri­day, in which two Venezue­lan na­tion­als were killed by po­lice, while four oth­ers were res­cued by po­lice af­ter they were kid­napped and raped.

Ear­ly yes­ter­day, po­lice shot and killed four men in Cen­tral Trinidad at Tor­ring­ton Road, Ed­in­burgh 500, Ch­agua­nas.

Among the dead men were two Venezue­lan na­tion­als one iden­ti­fied as Ron­niel Lara while the oth­er man iden­ti­fied on­ly as “Fred­die, up to press time.

The Venezue­lans were killed to­geth­er with 29-year-old Richard Wil­son from Ch­agua­nas and 22-year-old Demell How­ell from Mal­oney.

And just be­fore mid­day, of­fi­cers of the Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Re­sponse Team (SORT) to­geth­er with of­fi­cers of the An­ti-Kid­nap­ping Squad (AKS) and of­fi­cers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion stormed a house at Union Dri­ve, Four Roads, Diego Mar­tin and res­cued four Venezue­lan women all in their mid-20s who was be­ing held cap­tive there.

Se­nior sources in­volved in the op­er­a­tion told Guardian Me­dia that two women were search­ing for an apart­ment to rent in the Four Roads area on Thurs­day morn­ing.

They were re­ferred to a par­tic­u­lar house where men who po­lice say were pos­ing as fake cops kid­napped them and took them to a house paint­ed in blue and white re­sem­bling a po­lice sta­tion at Union Dri­ve.

The met­al gates had a repli­ca of the Star of David, an of­fi­cial sym­bol of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice.

Apart from the two women who had been re­port­ed miss­ing the day be­fore, po­lice al­so res­cued two oth­er Venezue­lan women who were be­ing held cap­tive in the house. Se­nior sources say they were able to lo­cate the house based on in­tel­li­gence sup­plied by SORT of­fi­cers.

Three sus­pects in their mid-twen­ties were ar­rest­ed on sus­pi­cion of kid­nap­ping, rob­bery and sex­u­al­ly as­sault­ing the women.

The op­er­a­tion was con­duct­ed with the help of ACP Ir­win Hack­shaw, of the West­ern Di­vi­sion, In­spec­tor Vin­cent of the Four Roads Po­lice Sta­tion and Sgt Mark Her­nan­dez of SORT.

On Thurs­day, 36-year-old Venezue­lan na­tion­al Jose Ro­driguez was shot and killed by a lone gun­man while dri­ving along the West­ern Main Road on near High­land Plaza, Glen­coe.

On April 4 an­oth­er uniden­ti­fied Venezue­lan na­tion­al iden­ti­fied as Alexan­der Ce­de­no Ro­ro­ba was shot and killed out­side the El Pecos Grill at the cor­ner of Ari­api­ta Av­enue and De Ver­teuil Street, Wood­brook.

The man they say was an asy­lum seek­er, but sources yes­ter­day told Guardian Me­dia he worked as a hit­man in Venezuela.
