The Trinidad and Tobago Regiment says it is fully cooperating with the T&T Police Service in a probe into a report that individuals in military wear robbed two people in Maloney.
In a release yesterday, the Regiment said details remain limited but emphasised that all reports of possible misconduct are treated seriously and that it remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.
Police and the Defence Force are investigating whether four camouflage-clad men involved in the robbery were actual soldiers or impersonators.
The suspects reportedly approached two men, aged 19 and 32, on the second floor of Building 12 at Maloney Gardens around 10.45 pm on Monday.
They identified themselves as soldiers but did not show official identification before stealing $6,000 and $1,000 from the victims.
Bystanders told police the suspects fled in what appeared to be a Regiment-issued vehicle, licence plate 5TTR275.
The vehicle was last seen on the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway.
ACP in charge of the Criminal Division, Richard Smith, said police were determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, regardless of whether they were legitimate soldiers or impostors.
