Relatives of two missing fishermen Darius Peters and Kenton Bernard are appealing for assistance to find them.
Peters, 31, and Bernard, 41, left on a fishing vessel on June 21 from Rampanalgas, Balandra.
Derlene Peters, 34, the sister of Darius, claimed they have been getting a run around from the T&T Coast Guard.
Speaking with Guardian Media on Friday, she claimed, “Every time we call the Coast Guard, they keep saying that they are awaiting information from Venezuela. It’s been nine days now and we are hearing nothing. That’s all we are hearing, its like they are not helping with nothing, and this is overbearing now. We would like the Minister of National Security to get involved in this.”
Derlene said her brother was accustomed heading out into the North Coast to fish.
She said her brother and Bernard went out on a 28-foot fishing vessel named In God’s Hands.
She said her brother has a two-year-old son, who lives with his mother, who is also making inquiries.
“Everybody has tried contacting different agencies. We are trying all how and we are getting a lot of run around. We reached out to a search and rescue group in Venezuela, who had no information.
She said other fishing vessels with search parties went to search for the missing men.
She said the families of both men are planning to hold a prayer session today.
Derlene said in 2015 Joel Peters, one of her other brothers, went missing when he went to Carenage and never returned.
She said, “We never get a phone call, We don’t know if he is dead, if he is living. The family is also in a mess because this is a second person who has gone missing.”
