Skinner Park in San Fernando will now be reopened in time for Carnival 2023.
San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello gave the assurance during his address at the Mayor’s Ball at City Hall Auditorium in San Fernando on Saturday night.
Earlier this year, Regrello had said that the reopening may have been in November, but he indicated then that the project had encountered numerous setbacks.
Skinner Park was closed in 2019 so that renovations could be undertaken.
Rural Development and Local Government Minister and San Fernando West MP Faris Al-Rawi also spoke about his vision for San Fernando, which involved 17 different projects.
The major project is the San Fernando ReDevelopment Waterfront Project which is ongoing. Noting that proper urban rejuvenation is required, Al-Rawi said, “If we don’t engage in that purchase of a vision why would you stop in San Fernando? Where is the development in San Fernando, in the suburbs in C3, South Park, Oropouche East and Oropouche West.”
He assured that the 700-plus municipal police force will be expanded to 1,500. Also attending the event was National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds, who commended the major, saying that in every facet of his life he has demonstrated his leadership, strength and vision.
