Police are investigating an incident where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a PH taxi driver on her way to school on Friday.
Investigators said around 7.25 pm on Friday, the victim and her mother reported to the Las Lomas Police Station what allegedly happened.
The mother said when she arrived home from work around 6.20 pm, her daughter relayed the incident, and they both made their way to the police station.
The teen said around 5.50 am, she was standing at the corner of Solomon Drive, Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, awaiting her school transport when a man of African descent, who she does not know approached her, stuck a knife at her waist and told her, “So hear what happening, doh move, if yuh move I would kill yuh.” The said man then pushed her towards a blue car that was parked nearby and into the backseat. The attacker then engaged the child lock before driving off.
The man then stopped at Chin Chin Road Junction, where he stole the girl’s Samsung S25plus cellphone, valued $8,000, and switched it off. He then took her to an apartment where he allegedly raped her.
Police were told that around 1.40 pm, the man dropped the teen girl off at Solomon Drive, Chin Chin Drive, Cunupia, and drove off.
Cops probe gang-related murder
A 33-year-old man was killed on Saturday morning in what police said was a gang-related incident.
Police said around 9.24 am, they responded to an anonymous call of a shooting. On arrival, they found the body of Dwayne Baynes at the side of the road with a bicycle between his legs. Baynes was riding his bicycle along Mano Trace, Enterprise, when he was shot.
The welder, from Crown Trace, Enterprise, died at the scene.
Police recovered five 9mm spent shells at the scene. Robbery was ruled out as a motive, as Baynes had $607 on him, along with a pack of cigarettes, a lighter, and a bunch of keys.
Woman robbed during phone sale
A 48-year-old woman was robbed of a $5,700 cellphone after she was given a false proof of payment receipt.
Police said the victim met with the suspect around 6.30 pm on October 29 at West Mall. The suspect and the victim went to her Nizam Street, St James home, where she handed over an Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, a white charging block and cable valued at US$29.99, a black transparent charger protector case valued at US$5, four rubber phone cases worth US$40, and a grey and white Guess slides valued $300.
The woman received a screenshot via WhatsApp of an online transfer from Scotiabank to her Republic Bank account for the sum of $5,700 from the suspect’s alleged husband. She then dropped the suspect off at KFC, St James.
The victim reported to police that to date she is yet to receive the payment for any items sold.
The suspect was identified as being slim, light brown in complexion, approximately five feet, five inches tall. She was last seen wearing a black burqa with white bandages on her right hand. — Jensen La Vende
