Koby Hinds of Pinto Road, Arima, has been charged with the murder of Josiah Maloney, which occurred on April 14th. The 23-year-old was also charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm to endanger life, possession of ammunition to endanger life and shooting with intent, when he appeared before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay, in the Arima First Magistrates’ Court today. The matter was adjourned to August 8th.
According to police reports, Maloney, 19, of Demerara Road, Arima, was at his home on April 14th in the company of two persons, when two armed assailants entered. The gunmen fired several shots at the victims before escaping. Maloney died at the scene, while one of the other victims was taken to hospital for treatment.
The accused was arrested on July 6th by officers of the Northern Division. Investigations were supervised by ASP Douglas, Insp. John, Sgt. Stanisclaus and Cpl (Ag.) Gordon, all of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Two. Hinds was charged by WPC Theroulde, also of HBI Region Two, on Saturday 9th July, 2022, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Friday 8th July, 2022.
This murder was previously solved with the charging of Ronaldo Assing, 19, a labourer, of Arima, on May 25th, 2022
