Tobago police have declared Tobago Carnival to be under control with a strong security presence in Scarborough and across the entire island.
Approximately 100 officers from various TTPS units have been deployed to the island to keep the Carnival incident-free.
At J’Ouvert celebrations yesterday morning, officers from the Guard and Emergency branch patrolled through the crowds. At each corner of the parade route, Guardian Media there were at least three officers stationed.
Snr Supt Earl Elie, along with ACP Oswain Subero and DCP Suzette Martin, kept a close eye on masqueraders and spectators as they walked along the parade routes and interacted with the public.
“Generally, across the island, the security is under control, and we expect a smooth, incident-free, safe, and secure Carnival 2024,” Elie said.
“There was a late start of the event. It started after 5. There was a good turnout of officers. I think we are at a 98 per cent turnout, so the security arrangements are in place.”
Last year, former ACP Collis Hazel praised the safe Carnival and said there were no incidents reported at major events.
