A 21-year-old security guard from east Port-of-Spain has been remanded after making his first court appearance for the murder of Savanna Dyer.
Kibwe Wells, of Quarry Street, East Dry River, was denied bail when he appeared before High Court Master Whitney Franklyn yesterday.
Dyer’s body was discovered at the side of the road at Carlsen Field, Chaguanas, on June 14. A post-mortem revealed that she had been shot in her head.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 21-year-old Diego Martin resident had been last seen at a bar in Barataria with a group of friends hours before her body was found. Surveillance footage at the bar showed her entering a black car after leaving the bar. There was also a video of her being given a ring by a man. Last week, a video of a man allegedly confessing to her murder was circulated on social media.
Guardian Media understands that another man was held in connection with her murder but did not appear in court alongside Wells, as he was sent to the St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital for a mental health evaluation based on his conduct whilst in police custody.
On Saturday, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal reviewed the file compiled by homicide detectives and advised that both men be charged. The other suspect is expected to be charged and make his first court appearance when he is released from hospital.
