An armed of­fi­cer on du­ty at Poui Hill, La­dy Chan­cel­lor, Port-of-Spain, had cause to dis­charge his firearm dur­ing the wee hours yes­ter­day af­ter an in­trud­er was spot­ted in the area.

The 68-year-old Es­tate Con­sta­ble em­ployed with Amal­ga­mat­ed Se­cu­ri­ty Ser­vices was on du­ty around 2.30 am when he was alert­ed by a dog bark­ing.

Up­on check­ing, the guard saw a man of East-In­di­an de­scent, clad in a red jer­sey and dark coloured pants with a Mar­vin Gaye hat, drink­ing a bot­tle of cham­pagne.

Up­on see­ing the guard, the sus­pect al­leged­ly be­came vi­o­lent and broke the bot­tle, fol­low­ing which he point­ed it at him while ad­vanc­ing to­wards him.

Warn­ing the sus­pect to de­sist, the guard be­came fear­ful when he re­fused, prompt­ing him to draw his com­pa­ny-is­sued Glock and fire one round in the di­rec­tion of the sus­pect, who es­caped by run­ning off in an east­er­ly di­rec­tion on the said com­pound.
