An armed officer on duty at Poui Hill, Lady Chancellor, Port-of-Spain, had cause to discharge his firearm during the wee hours yesterday after an intruder was spotted in the area.
The 68-year-old Estate Constable employed with Amalgamated Security Services was on duty around 2.30 am when he was alerted by a dog barking.
Upon checking, the guard saw a man of East-Indian descent, clad in a red jersey and dark coloured pants with a Marvin Gaye hat, drinking a bottle of champagne.
Upon seeing the guard, the suspect allegedly became violent and broke the bottle, following which he pointed it at him while advancing towards him.
Warning the suspect to desist, the guard became fearful when he refused, prompting him to draw his company-issued Glock and fire one round in the direction of the suspect, who escaped by running off in an easterly direction on the said compound.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
