Government Senator Laurel Lezama-Lee Sing says she is “not capable of such horrendous acts” as she waits for her day in court after an Interim Protection Order was granted against her.
In a pre-action protocol letter to a social media blogger yesterday, Lezama-Lee Sing, through her attorneys, defended her character after posts accompanied by negative comments were made about her on social media in relation to the protection order.
“Our client, states categorically and emphatically that she is not capable of such a horrendous act...Moreover, this Interim Protection Order dated the 19th day of September 2024, was made ex parte and our client is awaiting her opportunity to be heard by the said court,” the letter stated.
It added, “Our client is a well-known, respected and educated Politician and Senator of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. In her spare time, she is actively involved in a number of voluntary organisations which focus on the development of girls and women.”
Lezama-Lee Sing is being represented by Alisha Ponambalam and Hove and Associates.
When contacted yesterday, Lezama-Lee Sing’s husband Daren Lee Sing offered no comment on the matter and the court document which was circulating on social media.
It said the Order is with effect from September 19 and will continue until it is revoked, withdrawn, dismissed or a final order is made.
Lezama-Lee Sing, who is also the People’s National Movement’s education officer, did not appear in the matter nor was she represented by an attorney.
Several efforts to contact her proved futile.
Lezama-Lee Sing was the youngest Senator in the 9th Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. She was appointed to serve as a Government Senator from 2007 to 2010.
She was re-appointed to serve as a Government Senator in the 12th Republican Parliament which commenced in 2020.
Guardian Media also reached out to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, PNM’s Chairman Stuart Young, party PRO Faris Al-Rawi, General Secretary Foster Cummings and head of the PNM Women’s League Camille Robinson-Regis for comment on the matter but received no response up to late yesterday evening.
Daren Lee Sing is currently the acting Chief Executive Officer at the Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industries and a former TTPBA (Trinidad and Tobago Publishers and Broadcaster Association president.
He is also the son of former Port-of-Spain Mayor Louis Lee Sing.
