SE­WA TT hopes to col­lect at least 40,000 items of cloth­ing to as­sist those in need. The char­i­ta­ble or­gan­i­sa­tion be­gan its two-day clothes dri­ve on Sat­ur­day at the NCIC Na­gar in Ch­agua­nas.

Re­van Teelucks­ingh, the head of SE­WA TT, said this marks the fifth year the or­gan­i­sa­tion has held the event. He men­tioned the cloth­ing will go to in­di­vid­u­als and fam­i­lies in need. To en­sure this, SE­WA TT has part­nered with elect­ed of­fi­cials and the Min­istry of So­cial De­vel­op­ment to iden­ti­fy the fam­i­lies who will re­ceive the cloth­ing.

Teelucks­ingh not­ed al­though the clothes dri­ve lasts for two days, a team of 500 vol­un­teers will work dai­ly to sort and pack­age the cloth­ing for dis­tri­b­u­tion in De­cem­ber. He em­pha­sised noth­ing goes to waste. Some items un­suit­able for wear­ing are shred­ded in­to rags or stripped of but­tons, zip­pers, and oth­er fas­ten­ers for reuse.

Teelucks­ingh added de­pend­ing on the vol­ume of cloth­ing re­ceived, SE­WA TT may de­cide to ex­tend the dri­ve by an­oth­er day.
