SEWA Trinidad and Tobago in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) donated 250 food hampers for families in need. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Mc Donald Jacob, expressed his gratitude for the KN95 masks he received at a brief handing over ceremony at the Police Administration Building, Port of Spain. This was the sentiment echoed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Mc Donald Jacob, who welcomed the partnership being forged by the SEWA Trinidad and Tobago and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), which has seen the donation of 250 food hampers for families in need and a generous donation of face masks for police officers.
The KN95 face masks were donated today at a brief handing over ceremony at the Police Administration Building, Port of Spain. Meanwhile, the food hampers were handed over on November 6th at the Divali Nagar Site, Chaguanas.
In attendance today were DCP (Ag.), Administration, Joanne Archie, Cpl Tashika Gomes of the I Support Our Service Secretariat (ISOS) and President of SEWA TT Mr. Revan Teelucksingh.
Expressing his gratitude at the donation of masks, DCP Jacob applauded the organisation on their continuous civil duty as just on Sunday, the volunteer group distributed 3000 hampers to several Government and Non-Government Organisations including the TTPS in a collaborative drive. “We are truly grateful to you for your efforts,” DCP Jacob said. He continued, “These items will go a long way in assisting the TTPS in their duties.”
DCP (Ag.) Archie also commended the NGO for their corporate responsibility while expressing her thanks for the donations. On November 6th, the SEWA TT donated 250 hampers to be disseminated across the nine Policing Divisions for the community policing initiative. Hampers were also distributed to Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation, other Non-Government Organizations and individuals. The Community-Oriented Policing Secretariat (COPS) coordinated the distribution with the Guard and Emergency Branch ensuring everything was conducted safely.
“Giving is not just about making a donation but about making a difference,” said Mr. Teelucksingh’s who empathized with the challenges faced by the TTPS, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal and strength is building a sense of community through volunteerism and support,” he said.
SEWA TT, which started with ten young professionals, has expanded to 500 members aimed at making a difference through selfless service as the name SEWA (Sanskrit) suggests.
