The manhunt for escaped prisoner Robby Khadoo intensified yesterday as security agencies, including the T&T Defence Force (TTDF), continued the search to recapture him.
Senior police officials called on the public to assist in reporting any information as to his whereabouts – warning that efforts to conceal Khadoo or aid in his escape could attract legal consequences.
Khadoo, who had been charged with murder, escaped from the Accident and Emergency Department, Arima Hospital, around 7.15 pm on July 3, as he was receiving medical treatment.
It remained unclear up to yesterday what exactly Khadoo was being treated for and how he managed to escape.
Confirming Khadoo was still at large up to 2 pm yesterday, police officials said TTDF personnel had joined the search alongside specialist units from the T&T Police Service (TTPS) and the T&T Prison Service (TTPrS).
In a release dated July 4, the TTPS reminded the public that “It is a serious criminal offence to knowingly harbour, conceal, or otherwise assist an escaped prisoner or any person who is unlawfully evading arrest.”
They sought to make “It unequivocally clear that any person who knowingly provides shelter, transportation, money, clothing, food, or any other form of assistance to help the escapee avoid apprehension may be liable to criminal prosecution under the laws of T&T.”
While they stopped short of claiming Khadoo was armed and dangerous, the TTPS advised the public not to place themselves or others at risk by attempting to assist him in any way.
Anyone with information regarding Khadoo’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact 999, 555, 800-TIPS, the nearest police station, or to report it via the TTPS’ confidential reporting channels.
The TTPS added: “Harbouring a fugitive is not an act of loyalty—it is a criminal offence. If you know where the escapee is, report it. Do not assist.” —Anna-Lisa Paul
