Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Dr Amery Browne has confirmed that the T&T sign which went missing last week has been replaced.
Browne posted a photo of the new sign that was erected at 131st in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York, on his Twitter page and wrote: “The Trinidad and Tobago Street in Queens, New York now has signage once again! Thanks to the Mayor’s Office and other authorities, including our Consulate General.”
A photo of the sign’s current replacement process was taken by the New York City Council and thanks went out to them for “re-installing the Trinidad and Tobago Street sign!”
He also thanked Senator Joe Addabbo for helping the New York City Council and NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams for requesting a police investigation.
Browne, who last week told the Guardian Media that he is expecting a report on allegations surrounding the theft of the sign, said yesterday that no report has been presented yet.
It is alleged the sign was stolen some time last week.
Browne, in a previous interview, said that he instructed the Consulate General of T&T “to verify this assertion, to meet with the Mayor of New York asap on the matter and to request a formal investigation.”
The street was renamed during a gala fanfare on August 20.
