An early morning earthquake rattled parts of Trinidad yesterday, with members of the public taking to social media to talk about their experiences.
The UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC) confirmed a magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred.
The SRC said the event occurred at around 7.34 in the morning.
It said that based on the location of the earthquake it would have been felt in areas between Port-of-Spain, Arima and San Fernando.
On the SRC’s Facebook page, some citizens commented on the earthquake which according to some posters was felt in Grenada.
Others in areas like Caroni, Diego Martin, St Augustine, Santa Cruz, Chase Village, Princes Town and Oropouche said they felt the quake.
Some posters also said the earthquake was strong and appeared to have lasted for around seven seconds.
One woman said she was “jolted out of her sleep” by the quake.
However, no one reported any injuries or damage to property.
Back on August 21, 2018, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake rocked Trinidad and Tobago.
That earthquake saw several reports of buildings and properties being damaged.
