Thousands came out on Carnival Monday night for the Chaguanas Carnival Committee's (CCC) annual steelband competition.
Deputy mayor of Chaguanas and vice-chairman of the CCC, Orlando Nagessar, said he was overwhelmed by the crowd response. Patrons at the free event saw nine steelbands from South and Central playing before the judges who were seated on a stage in front the Chaguanas Market. Patrons got an added treat from young Allan Clelland-Goddard who sang Pan in My DNA.
The crowd called for an encore from the former Junior Calypso Monarch, who was born in England in 1997, and has lived in T&T since he was three months old. The competition opened with a performance by the Polyphonics Steel Orchestra, followed by the St Thomas Silver Stars, of Boothill, Chaguanas, led by captain Norman Sylvester. New Age Trendsetters were the next in line and they were followed by Southern All Stars and Southern Marines Steelpan Foundation, Couva Joylanders. T&TEC Tropical Angel Harps and Longdenville Claytones closed the programme at 10 pm.
